A Ray Of Sunshine

From the heart of a seed

        Dropped close to a wall

        Grew a pale green plant

        So slim and tall.

        Nourished by the raindrops

        Kissed by the daily sun

        It formed a tiny bud

        Yes there was only one.

Crowds passed by it every day

        But no one ever noticed

The plant that was hidden away.

        But one day a man

        So feeble and old

        Noticed the bloom

        Of the brightest gold.

        He plucked the flower

In its first hour of life

        And took it home

        To his ailing wife.

It was the one bright spot

        In that shabby room

        That seemed to chase

        Away all the gloom.

        And so we must

        In our own humble way

Make at least one bright spot

        In someone else's day.
